Two mascots -- one flesh and bone, the other mechanical -- has football fans in the state of Georgia concerned.
Uga VI, the pure white English bulldog that serves as Georgia’s mascot, has been cleared for the 2007 season despite concerns about his weight. He’s nine years old and became the official mascot in Game Two of the 1999 season.
Meanwhile, Georgia Tech’s Ramblin’ Wreck is, well, wrecked. In June, a trailer malfunction caused an accident as the 1930 Ford Model A was being transported back to Atlanta. An estimated $20,000 in repair work is underway. The repair work has taken time because of the wait for rare parts.
Since 1961, the Ramblin’ Wreck has led the Yellow Jackets onto the field at home games. Georgia Tech opens its home season on Sept. 8 against Samford.
