That was the halftime score from Lincoln, Neb. When I heard that, my first reaction was:
Who's the next coach?
Second reaction: Who's the next athletic director?
The Huskers' melt down _ particularly defensively _ has reached historic proportions. Nebraska is a dropped Ball State pass from being 3-3 going into Saturday's game. The Huskers can't stop the run and can't stop the pass. That's a losing combo.
So, what's next? Steve Pederson is the AD who fired Frank Solich and hired Bill Callahan. If they both lose their jobs after this football season, here's how I read my crystal ball:
Next athletic director: Tom Osborne.
Next football coach: Choose from this list _ Buffalo's Turner Gill, LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini, former Auburn coach Terry Bowden. (There will be other candidates, but that threesome is a good place to start.)
