UTA is already showing a turnaround from last year's dreadful season. The Mavs took a big step forward with a 10-9 upset against Alabama on Thursday at the Dr Pepper Ballpark in the Southwest Diamond Classic. UTA new coach Darin Thomas gets a significant foundation victory in the second week of the season.
UTA (3-4) also nearly blew an eight-run lead and but hung on as Jeff Edlefesen got the save. Mavs first baseman Danny Slinkman (left) was 3-4 with five RBI and Nathan Long moved to 2-0.....UTA wins tracker: 10 more equals last year's win total.
