OK, it's not shocking that TCU didn't make the women's NCAA field, although the Frogs had a decent resume. But WHAT was the committee thinking? First, it's unheard of that two highly-ranked teams from the same conference (UConn and Rutgers from the Big East) get matched up in the same region. The Huskies, whose only loss this year came to the Scarlet Knights, are No. 1 in the Greensboro region while Rutgers is the second seed. The region is also overloaded with good teams and is absolutely the toughest in the tournament.
But then add in that the New Orleans Region was worse and you can immediately see an easy fix. North Carolina is the top seed there but the No. 2 seed is LSU. Think UNC's Sylvia Hatchell is happy that her No. 1 seeded Tar Heels have a potential regional title game matchup against LSU - IN New Orleans? Switching Rutger and LSU would have solved both problems.
