The TCU Horned Frogs have had their share of late-game heroics this season. It happened again tonight when the Horned Frogs beat UNLV 4-3 at Lupton Stadium. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, second baseman Ben Carruthers hit a double to left center field to score Corey Steglich.
"I think we've been beating our heads against the wall for most of the season trying to be a powerful offensive club, and I think what we've finally - not conceded to - but we don't get nearly as frustrated because we're a club that has to win with pitching, defense and timely hitting,'' TCU coach Jim Schlossnagle said.
Some extra notes from tonight -
* This was the third game between the two teams that was decided in the bottom of the ninth. UNLV won two games on a walk-off homer and fielding error by TCU.
* Eight of the 14 runners left on base by UNLV were in scoring position.
* Counting last season, TCU is now 21-2 in the month of April.
