STILLWATER, Okla. - Western Kentucky tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, but the TCU Horned Frogs answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 10-5 victory today in an NCAA regional elimination game at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
TCU (44-18), the No.3 seed, will play the loser of tonight's Oklahoma State-Wichita State game tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Western Kentucky (33-27), the fourth seed, took an early 4-0 lead on Chad Cregar's grand slam to right field in the top of the first inning. TCU starter Sean Hoelscher was relieved by Trent Appleby, who went 6 2/3 innings, giving up four hits, one earned run and two walks. TCU bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the first, then took a 5-4 lead in the third on Matt Vern's three-run home run to left center field. -Trae Thompson
