Port Arthur Memorial guard J’Covan Brown may need the fall semester to clear up his academic qualifications and thus not enroll at the University of Texas until the second semester in December, according to a source familiar with the situation.
Nothing is official, according to several Texas sources, but Brown has made no secret that he was working toward qualifying academically.
Texas this week got a solid commitment from 6-foot-7 Duncanville junior guard Shawn Williams, one of the state’s top-rated prospects. Williams is the first from what the Longhorns hope to be a banner 2009 class that will sign letters of intent in November. Texas is reportedly in final consideration by two of the country’s top 20 players who could sign then--6-7 Los Angeles forward Jordan Hamilton and 6-2 guard Avery Bradley.
Texas already has a commitment for the class of 2010 from Tristan Thompson, a 6-9 forward at St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, N.J., who some recruiting analysts consider the top junior in the country.
