It took almost seven quarters, but the Texas defense just recorded its first sack of the 2008 season when DE Brian Orakpo dropped UTEP quarerback Trevor Vittatoe for an 8-yard loss with 1:40 remaining in the third quarter. The Longhorns entered the game as the only Big 12 defense without a sack this season.
During tonight's game, Texas has gotten reasonable pressure on Vittatoe, who is completing less than 50 percent of his passes. But only Orakpo has dropped him for a loss.
