Texas A&M quarterback Stephen McGee was back on the practice field Sunday and got in a few throws, but his status for Saturday's 2:30 p.m. home game against Miami is still up in the air as he continues to rehab his sprained shoulder. Aggies coach Mike Sherman said he's taking things day-by-day and will make a decision later in the week about whether McGee or sophomore Jerrod Johnson will start against the Hurricanes.
"Wednesday and Thursday will pretty much dictate where we are with [McGee]," Sherman said.
McGee said the pain was "pretty rough" about three days after he injured his shoulder on the first possession against New Mexico, but he said he's made "big strides" in the past several days. He said most of he bruising and swelling has subsided.
Chances are, McGee will try to lobby the coaches to allow him to play. He hasn't missed a game since he began playing football in the fourth grade.
Asked if he thinks he'll be able to go Saturday, McGee smiled.
"I always do," he said.
