Riley Dodge's time spent at inside receiver this month could be partially explained by the subtraction of former Colleyville Heritage receiver Evan Walker all season. Walker, a redshirt freshman, hasn't played in a game because of a heretofore undisclosed suspension. The reason, I'm told, is also undisclosed. Walker, a backup coming out of fall camp, remains on the roster released Tuesday.
Speaking of Dodge, he's working more at quarterback this week with the first and second teams. His elbow tendinitis appears to be subsiding. UNT has some plays it ran with Dodge at QB on Saturday, but it's unlikely that starter Giovanni Vizza is going anywhere. Dodge is still working at inside receiver, too.
In other offense-related news, former Cedar Hill quarterback James Hamilton, recruited by UNT as a defensive back and return man, is into his second or third week at running back. Hamilton ran for 17 yards on his only carry and last play of the game at Rice. Curious to see what he can do with meaningful opportunities.
Addendum: Late this afternoon, it appears sophomore receiver Sam Dibrell is not practicing today, which is highly rare for him. He's second behind Casey Fitzgerald with 24 catches this season. There's a chance he could be absent for UNT's conference opener Saturday against Florida International, but we're trying to find out more.
