Straight from the Big 12 ....
IRVING — The Oklahoma men's basketball team was picked to finish first and Texas was second in the Big 12 Conference's preseason vote of the league coaches, the conference office announced Tuesday. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
Oklahoma received three first-place votes and 109 total points in polling for the 2008-09 season. Texas had four first-place votes and 107 points. Baylor (two first-place votes) and Kansas (three first-place votes) tied for third in the preseason poll with 103 points each.
Texas A&M was tabbed fifth, followed by Oklahoma State, Missouri, Kansas State, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Iowa State and Colorado.
The Big 12 Conference will hold its preseason media day for men’s basketball on Thursday, Oct. 23 in Oklahoma City, site of the 2009 Phillips 66 Big 12 Basketball Championships.
