Trailing 28-7, Mike Sherman rolled the dice and went for it on fourth-and3 at his own 42. The gamble paid huge dividends. Jerrod Johnson fired a pass over the middle to Ryan Tannehill, who turned it into a 55-yard gain down to the Oklahoma 3. Three plays netted just 1 yard, then Sherman gambled again. This time Johnson dropped back to pass, saw an opening and raced ahead, diving into the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown that closed the gap to 28-14 with 5:11 left until halftime.
The momentum was short-lived, however. Oklahoma answered with a six-play, 73-yard touchdown drive, capped by Sam Bradford's 46-yard scoring pass to Ryan Broyle, giving the Sooners a 35-14 advantage.
