TCU women's basketball coach Jeff Mittie confirmed that junior guard Eboni Mangum has torn the ACL in her right knee.
Mangum, a transfer from Louisiana Tech, was voted the Mountain West Conference preseason Newcomer of the Year. She did participate in Wednesday's practice, and Mittie said she is planning to play. Her status though for Friday's home opener against Maryland is still uncertain, and will depend on how her knee responds to practice.
"She's a unique player in that most don't have the ability to try it," Mittie said. "She's tough enough and she seems to at least have the chance to see if it will work."
Mangum wore a brace on her right leg during Wednesday's practice, and drew praise from Mittie at one point when she dove on the court for a loose ball.
"It inspired me," Mittie said. "I do want them to look at that, and take that attitude, and say, 'Here's a kid that's banged up and fighting like crazy and falling on the court in a drill where we're actually not going 100 percent.' We're going about 75 percent and then stopping. That's just the way she plays the game."
