Boise State has a 10-0 lead over TCU after the first quarter of play in the Poinsettia Bowl. The Broncos scored on their opening drive with a 30-yard field goal from Kyle Brotzman. Boise extended its lead later in the quarter when senior running back Ian Johnson scored on a 20-yard scamper, setting the all-time WAC record for rushing touchdowns.
TCU put together a late drive in the first quarter, moving to the Broncos 35. The Broncos halted the Frogs threat, though, when they intercepted a deep pass thrown by TCU wide reciever Jeremy Kerley, who was at quarterback in the "Wild Frog" formation.
