Boise State senior running back Ian Johnson set the WAC record with rushing touchdowns with No. 58 coming on a 20-yard end around to give the Broncos a 10-0 lead over TCU with 7:35 left in the first quarter of the Poinsettia Bowl.
Johnson passes former San Diego State great Marshall Faulk, who had 57 rushing TDs during his illustrious collegiate career.
The Boise State drive, though, might have never happened. TCU coach Gary Patterson challenged a play early in the drive, saying Boise tight end Richie Brockel fumbled a pass that TCU linebacker Jason Phillips recovered. The replay officials, however, said that Brockel was down before the ball came loose.
