Dennis Franchione, former coach at Texas A&M and TCU, is one of three finalists for the vacant job at San Diego State, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported on its website today.
The newspaper, citing unidentified sources close to the situation, identified Franchione, San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz and UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker as the three finalists who will be brought back for another round of interviews with school officials.
San Diego State seeks a replacement for Chuck Long, who was fired at the end of the 2008 season. If Francione emerges as Long’s replacement, he would coach next season against TCU, where he preceded Gary Patterson as the Horned Frogs’ head football coach. Both TCU and San Diego State are members of the Mountain West Conference.
