Sophomore Tamara Simmons was named Southland Conference women's basketball player of the week, as the guard is coming off a career-best 24 points (17 in the second half) in a 73-63 loss to No. 18 Kansas State on Sunday. Simmons is one of four Mavericks averaging more than 10 points a game, while the former Mansfield Summit standout leads UTA in assists (3.6).
