Reports have quarterback Nick Montana, son of former NFL QB great Joe Montana, making an unofficial visit to the University of Texas this week. Nick will be a senior this season at Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, Calif., where teammates include the sons of Wayne Gretzky and Will Smith.
Nick Montana was reported to be visiting Ohio State on Monday and Tuesday, and the Buckeyes, according to reports, are ready to offer him a scholarship and make him their sole quarterback recruit for the signing class of 2010.
On the other side of the Red River Rivalry, Matt Simms, brother of former Texas quarterback Chris and son of former NFL QB Phil, has said he is interested in transferring to Penn State or Oklahoma after completing a stint at a junior college. Matt Simms, according to NewJersey.com, has transferred to El Camino (Calif.) College after leaving Louisville in a bitter breakup.
Both OU and Texas are in hot pursuit of Connor Wood, a blue-chip quarterback recruit for 2010 who plays at Houston Second Baptist. Wood reportedly will give an oral commitment soon, and OU would be set at quarterback if he were to choose the Sooners.
Other OU news: Sooners coach Bob Stoops says he will look at using Mossis Madu at slot receiver at times to get his best players on the field. Madu is behind returning standouts DeMarco Murray and Chris Brown at running back.
And Sooners linebacker Ryan Reynolds says his knee is good to go for the 2009 season. Reynolds suffered a torn knee ligament in the Texas game in October and underwent season-ending surgery.
