The deadline for Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach to sign a new contract is 5 p.m. today. Texas Tech imposed the deadline, and Tech could decide later, possibly after the 2009 season, to renew negotiations. Leach still has two years left on his current contract, through 2010.
Leach isn't expected to sign the deal today, but doesn't seem particularly worried about the consequences, according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal's report.
Asked if he feared that 2009 might be his last season to coach the Red
Raiders, Leach said, “I don’t worry about any of it. I worry about how
I can make the team the best at the present.’’
Leach made the comments on his way back to Lubbock. He has been in Wales to watch the Wales-England rugby match, on a junket sponsored by Under Armour, Texas Tech's equipment and apparel manufacturer, according to the Avalanche-Journal. The group then attended the Daytona 500 on Sunday.
