Welcome to another edition of the Internet Sports Bar. Pull up a chair, pour yourself and drink and let's talk about the SEC. Today's subject, Florida football recruiting.
The Gators, obviously, have been in pretty good shape lately and did not sign a big class last year. They were fortunately and possibly surprised when quarterback Tim Tebow and linebacker Brandon Spikes returned for their senior season.
Florida is two players over the limit, so they have a little whittling to do between now and August. They have 19 seniors and some talented juniors, particularly in the secondary, so I imagine the Gators will have a large recruiting class.
Urban Meyer usually takes his time in recruiting, but he already has five commitments.
Scanning the depth chart, I would say receiver is the No. 1 need. As always, there's the search for the next great quarterback. In Florida's case, those are mighty big shoes to fill.
Idle thought: If Charlie Weis is fired at Notre Dame after this season, could the Irish come calling for Meyer? Especially is he wins still another BCS title?
Next: Georgia recruiting.
