Three different Texas A&M tailbacks broke runs of 25 yards or longer during today’s controlled scrimmage, with coach Mike Sherman offering praise for all three: sophomore Cyrus Gray (77 yards, 3 carries), sophomore Bradley Stephens (49 yards, 6 carries) and freshman Christine Michael (56 yards, 9 carries). Stephens and Michael each scored two touchdowns. Gray gained 63 yards on his first carry but was limited thereafter because of what Sherman described as “a little bit” of tightness in his hamstring.
“I thought our backs did nice,” said Sherman, who plans to use all three this season. “They have played well since the start of camp.”
Among the quarterbacks, Jerrod Johnson completed 8-of-12 passes for 120 yards and rushed for 36 yards. Howard Morrow led all receivers with three catches for a team-high 65 yards.
The defense recorded 11 sacks, including two each by Ricky Cavanaugh, Matt Moss and Kevin Mangan. Defensive end Von Miller had 1 1/2 sacks in limited action.
