In light of what happened Sunday, Texas Tech coach Mike Leach said his players will no longer be allowed to have a Twiiter account.
One day following a disappointing 29-28 loss at Houston, Tech offensive guard Brandon Carter and linebacker Marlon Williams posted derogatory comments on their Twiiter page Sunday. Leach responded Monday morning by announcing during the Big 12 media teleconference that: "Anybody that wants to play for us doesn't have a Twitter page.''
Carter was suspended indefinitely by Leach on Sunday for violating a team rule. It was not clear if the suspension stemmed from what Carter posted on his Twitter page.
On that Twitter page Sunday, Carter wrote: "I am not a captain anymore and will not be playing this week. Good luck Red Raiders. I'll still be cheering on my family from the stands.
"This is not how I saw our season. I just cried like am idiot. I want us to be so good my last year and I feel like I'm letting everyone down.''
Asked Monday why he suspended Carter, Leach said: "None of that stuff is privy to the media. It's for violating team rules. Anything that he needs to do to get back (on the field), that's pretty much between me and him.''
When asked later during the teleconference if Carter is gone for the season, or if he needs to meet certain requirements in order to get back on the field, an impatient Leach asked the reporter if he'd heard his previous answer to a similar question. Then Leach said: "Based on my response to the other question what makes you think you can get a different one?''
Later on, Leach was asked if he was personally disappointed that a senior captain like Carter would do something to get himself suspended.
"Did you hear my answer to the last question?,'' Leach asked.
"I did,'' said the reporter.
"Well,'' said Leach, ''go ahead and write that down.''
Tech usually has a team meeting and a light workout on Sunday, but Leach cancelled the workout. And when he apparently didn't show up at the scheduled start tiime for the meeting, Williams wrote on his Twitter page: "Wondering why I'm still in this meetiing room when the head coach can't even be on time to his own meeting.''
Needless to say, Leach was not happy with Williams.
"Anybody that's a malcontent doesn't stay around here very long, because we've got a pretty good line of recruits that are fully willing to replace them,'' Leach said. "Interestingly enough, (Williams) doesn't have a Twitter page any more.''
