As the saying goes, sometimes when things go wrong you just have to laugh to keep from crying.
That was the case with Texas Tech offensive right tackle Marlon Winn. Asked what he saw last Saturday against New Mexico when Red Raiders quarterback Taylor Potts suffered a concussion while he was viciously sacked twice in a three-play sequence, Winn said: "I saw Taylor Potts. His mustache looked OK. That's all I was worried about.
"I just helped him up and we made our way to the sidelines.''
Potts was replaced by Steven Sheffield, who immediately directed Tech on four consecutive touchdown drives. Potts was 13-of-23 for 215 yards and two interceptions before he was knocked out of the game, while Sheffield completed 16-of-23 passes for 238 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
"(Sheffield) and Potts are great quarterbacks and are both capable of doing the same thing for our team and leading our team in the right direction,'' Winn said. "We're happy to have either one of them behind us.''
Since Tech coach Mike Leach has a policy of not revealing injuries, it is not known if Potts will be ready to play Saturday at 6 p.m. at home against Kansas State. But at least Winn knows the difference between Potts and Sheffield.
Winn said: "Potts has a moustache.''
