ARLINGTON _ It was a nice gesture by Baylor coach Art Briles to start quarterback Blake Szymanski in today's game against Texas Tech.
Szymanski, a senior, has endured more than his share of injuries and heartbreak during his tenure with Baylor. In 2007, he set several Baylor records, but lost his job last year to freshman sensation Robert Griffin.
Then after Griffin suffered a season-ending knee injury in the third game this season against Northwestern State, Szymanski had his old job back. Unfortunately, Szymanski sustained a shoulder injury later in the same game, and the Bears' quarterback job fell into the hands of freshman Nick Florence.
But since this is Szymanski's final college game, it's a class act on Briles' part to start Szymanski, who fired a 57-yard pass to David Gettis on Baylor's opening drive that set up a 25-yard field goal by Dary Stone and gave the Bears a 3-0 lead less than four minutes into the game.
