Two days after setting Texas Tech's single-season sack record, defensive end Brandon Sharpe was named the co-Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts this past Saturday against Baylor
Sharpe collected two sacks against the Bears, bringing his school-record single-season total to 15. He also filled in the hole and made a game-saving tackle on Baylor quarterback Blake Szymanski at the 5-yard line on a third-down draw play that would have tied the game in the waning moments.
"It's a privilege, and I'm just happy,'' Sharpe said. "But I couldn't do it without my whole defense. We all work hard and work together.''
Sharpe shared the weekly award with Colorado's Cha'pelle Brown. Texas quarterback Colt McCoy was named the Offensive Player of the Week, and Missouri's Grant Ressel was chosen as the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Sharpe is second in the nation in sacks, trailing Texas A&M's Von Miller, who has 17 sacks. He also won the Big 12 weekly award earlier this season after collecting four sacks during a 31-10 victory at Nebraska.
