Hey folks,
Walt Anderson, coordinator of football officials, talked about that last-second call. Here are his quotes:
"What we do with any replay situation is determine if it’s reviewable, which this one was. What we did is, we knew right away we had the potential for when did the ball hit out of bounds and where was the clock. We immediately paged the officials, let TV know we were reviewing the play. We saw a shot where we saw the ball hit the ground and the clock was superimposed on it. The ball, by rule, has to hit something. (The ball) hit the railing by one of those suites on the ground level."
"It’s not an error by the clock operator. What you have to understand is the operators are told to wait to hit the button until it’s clearly hitting something."
