Two Texas football players have left the team, school officials announced today.
Philip Payne, a senior who has played sparingly at receiver during his college career, has notified coaches that he will complete his degree and forgo his final season of eligibility. Payne is on pace to graduate in May.
Antwan Cobb, a senior who has played primarily at fullback, has decided to end a career marked by chronic injuries. Cobb suffered a knee injury during the 2007 that that limited him to seven games that season and one game in 2008. He played in all 14 games last season, primarily on special teams, but battled other injuries in the process. Cobb finishes his college career with nine carries for 37 yards, as well as a 16-yard touchdown catch during the 2007 season.
“Since my knee injury a couple of years ago, I’ve had a series of injuries and just haven’t been able to get well enough to compete at the level I know I’m capable of,” Cobb said in a release issued by school officials.
