Texas A&M teammates Jerrod Johnson and Von Miller were among four pre-season honorees selected for individual player honors by media members who cover the Big 12.
Johnson, the Aggies’ quarterback, was selected as the preseason Offensive Player of the Year, league officials announced today. Miller, a linebacker/defensive end who led the NCAA in sacks last season (17), shared preseason Defensive Player of the Year honors with Nebraska defensive tackle Jared Crick.
Colorado receiver Toney Clemons, a transfer from Michigan, was selected as the preseason Newcomer of the Year.
In addition, Oklahoma placed a league-high seven players on the preseason All-Big 12 team, led by receiver Ryan Broyles and running back DeMarco Murray. Texas placed six players on the 29-member team, including three from the secondary: safety Blake Gideon and cornerbacks Aaron Williams and Curtis Brown. Nebraska and Texas A&M each had four players on the preseason team. No other schools had more than two.
