Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman offered praise for his incoming freshman at the conclusion of today's workout in College Station. But he said the Aggies' returnees have made enough progress that he envisions a significant cutback in the number of freshmen who will play in 2010.
One year after the Aggies set a school record for number of true freshman to play in a season (18), Sherman said that number may be cut in half this season.
"We have a great freshman class," Sherman said. "I think this class is very attentive ... Last year, we played 18 (true) freshmen. I would be happy if we play nine and redshirted the rest (this season)."
A&M has a scrimmage scheduled tomorrow and opens the season Sept. 4 against Stephen F. Austin.
