University of Texas officials will unveil and dedicate a statue Friday in Austin to honor a pair of long-time donors: Fort Worth philanthropist and oilman W.A. “Tex” Moncrief, a member of the school’s board of regents from 1987-93, and San Antonio resident Red McCombs, former owner of the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Vikings.
Officials announced the dedication ceremony today. The statue will be unveiled Friday afternoon at the Red McCombs Red Zone, located at the north end of Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. School officials said Texas football coach Mack Brown will attend the ceremony, along with men’s athletics director DeLoss Dodds and women’s athletics director Chris Plonsky.
