Texas tweaked a handful of positions on today’s depth chart, with two players from Tarrant County high schools being elevated back into the starting lineup heading into Saturday's game against Baylor.
Southlake Carroll graduate Tre Newton moving back into the starting role at tailback, replacing Fozzy Whittaker, and Mansfield Summit graduate John Chiles will take over for Marquise Goodwin at one receiver spot.
Newton, a sophomore, led the team in rushing last season but has battled a hip pointer in recent weeks. Chiles, a senior, had a career-high 117 receiving yards and one touchdown in last week's 28-21 loss to Iowa State.
In other offensive moves, Mike Davis will start at flanker, replacing James Kirkendoll, with DeSean Hales moving into the No. 2 spot. Kirkendoll, a senior, was listed as a co-starter at split end with Malcolm Williams.
Defensively, coaches shifted Emmanuel Acho _ who missed the Iowa State game because of a knee injury _ back to middle linebacker, replacing Dustin Earnest. Dravannti Johnson is slated to take over at strongside linebacker, where Acho started against Oklahoma and Nebraska.
In addition, the team’s Nov. 6 game at Kansas State has been selected as an ESPN2 telecast. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. in Manhattan, Kan.
