Former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, a two-time Walter Camp Player of the Year and two-time Heisman Trophy finalist, will have his No. 12 jersey retired at the Longhorns’ Oct. 30 game against Baylor.
Texas officials announced the decision today. McCoy, a rookie with the NFL’s Cleveland Browns who posted a career mark of 45-8 as Texas’ starting quarterback, becomes the sixth former Longhorn to have his jersey retired. He joins running back Earl Campbell (No. 20), quarterback Bobby Layne (No. 22), linebacker Tommy Nobis (No. 60), running back Ricky Williams (No. 34) and quarterback Vince Young (No. 10).
In a statement, McCoy said he was “overwhelmed, humbled and psyched” when he learned about the honor, calling it “a dream come true.”
