Baylor offers two-game ticket package

WACO _ For the Baylor fans wishing to save some money while attending the team's last two home football games, the school has put together a special package to make that happen.

Adults ages 19 years and older can purchase a ticket to Saturday's game against Texas A&M and the Nov. 20 contest against Oklahoma for a total price of $80. For those under 19 years old, a ticket to those same two games will cost a total of $50.

Overall, that's a savings of $30 off the single-game price.

Those discounted tickets can be purchased only at baylorbears.com starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday and finishing at 12-noon Thursday.

"Baylor fans have been tremendous this season rising up to 'Fill the Stands' for the first four home games,'' Baylor athletic director Ian McCaw said. "With the inspiring support of BU fans, the Bears have responded with wins in each game at Floyd Casey Stadium on their way to becoming bowl bound for the first time since 1994.

"This special offer affords the Waco community and Baylor alumni an opportunity to be a part of the two remaining home games at a reduced price while tickets remain available. We encourage fans to arrive early, wear gold and cheer loud as the Bears continue to build on their historic season.''

Baylor is 4-0 at home this season and have drawn 159,136 fans to those games. If the Bears draw a little over 82,000 fans to the final two home games against A&M and OU, they will break the Floyd Casey Stadium six-game single-game total attendance record of 240,367 set in 1991. 

On the field, the Bears are 7-3 overall, 4-2 in the Big 12 and are already guaranteed of playing in their first bowl game since 1994.

A&M's Hodges selected as national defensive player of week

Texas A&M linebacker Michael Hodges was selected today as the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week, chosen by members of the Football Writers Association of America.

Hodges had a career-high 19 tackles (eight solos) and two sacks in the Aggies’ 33-19 victory over Oklahoma. It marked the highest tackle total by an A&M defensive player since Dat Nguyen, the Aggies’ current linebacker coach, had 20 against UCLA in the 1998 Cotton Bowl.

TicketCity to be title sponsor for first-year Dallas bowl game

TicketCity has agreed to be the title sponsor for Dallas’ first-year bowl game that will include a Big 12 team, bowl organizers announced today. The Jan. 1 game at the Cotton Bowl, initially dubbed the Dallas Football Classic, will now be known as the TicketCity Bowl. The contest will match a Big 12 team against an opponent from the Big Ten.

Duncanville's Williams leaving Texas hoops

Texas guard-forward Shawn Williams has decided to leave the Longhorns basketball team.

The former Duncanville star announced his decision Monday morning after meeting with the coaching staff over the weekend.

"I will continue to take classes at UT and finish the fall semester academically," Williams said in a statement. "This is a move that I need to make now in my best interest.”

A redshirt freshman, Williams presumably will transfer to another program where prospects of playing time are more bright. He had been expected, however, to find minutes as both a third guard and small forward this season after recuperating from knee surgery seven games into his freshman year. He did not want to lose another season of eligibility.

"We want to thank Shawn for being a part of our program for the last year and a half," coach Rick Barnes said. "He is a model student-athlete and a well-respected individual who comes from a great family. We wish Shawn nothing but the best as he moves forward.”--Mike Jones.

 

Texas CB Brown out for season with broken arm

Texas cornerback Chykie Brown broke his right forearm during the team’s 39-14 loss to Kansas State and will be out for the remainder of the season, team trainers said today. Brown, a senior, has started all nine games for the Longhorns (4-5, 2-4 in Big 12) this season. He made 29 starts in his college career.

TCU's path to the Rose Bowl

Projections being made for this week's BCS standings (released tonight at 7:15) are in agreement on the top five: 1. Oregon, 2. Auburn, 3. TCU, 4. Boise State, 5. LSU.

If those standings hold through the end of the regular season, Oregon and Auburn would go to the National Championship Game (which is NCG in BCS speak) and TCU would go to the Rose Bowl, taking Oregon's place. Oregon would normally go to the Rose Bowl as the Pacific-10 champion.

Here is the new rule in the BCS eligibility released in April:

"For the games of January 2011 through 2014, the first year the Rose Bowl loses a team to the NCG and a team from the non-AQ group is an automatic qualifier, that non-AQ team will play in the Rose Bowl."

TCU under the current BCS standings is the automatic qualifier from the non-automatic qualifying group. Boise State can also go to a BCS bowl, but would do so as an at-large team.

Under these circumstances, TCU would play the winner from the Big Ten Conference, with Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan State in a battle for first place.

The Frogs barely passed Boise State in the USA Today coaches poll, jumping to No. 3 from fourth by a margin of 10 points (1,340 to 1,330). No. 4 Boise State had  more first-place votes than TCU, 3-2. 

 

Frogs move up a spot in both polls

TCU moved up one spot to No. 3 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches' poll after dismantling Utah 47-7 Saturday. The Frogs trail No. 2 Auburn by only five points in the AP poll, and they gained a second first-place vote in the Coaches' poll. The updated BCS standings will be announced tonight at 7:15 pm CST on ESPN.

The Horned Frogs (10-0, 5-0 in Mountain West Conference) play San Diego State in their final home game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium. --Stefan Stevenson

#TCU to No. 3 in #APPoll; #LSU Lurks; #Aggies Ranked

TCU's 40-point win at Utah apparently did the trick.
The Frogs are No. 3 in the latest AP Poll, behind No. 1 Oregon and No. 2 Auburn.
Boise State had been second, but is now No. 4. 
The Frogs received two first-place votes, the same as last week. Boise State kept seven first-place votes.
But beware of LSU. After its defeat of Alabama, the Tigers are up to No. 5.

Texas A&M, which defeated No. 11 Oklahoma, is ranked for the first time is 435 years. The Aggies are No. 22.

The BCS Poll will be released tonight.
