PGA Tour golfer J.J. Henry, a 1998 TCU graduate and die-hard Horned Frogs’ fan, has more than bragging rights on the line today in a friendly wager with fellow tour player Jerry Kelly, a resident of Madison, Wis. _ home of the Wisconsin Badgers, the Frogs’ opponent in today’s Rose Bowl.
The two have cooked up a wager with a high-profile payoff during the week of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, May 16-22 in Fort Worth.
If the Frogs win, Kelly has to wear the outfit of TCU’s mascot, Super Frog, during one of the practice rounds during Colonial week (Tuesday or Wednesday). If the Badgers win, Henry must don the outfit of the Wisconsin mascot, Bucky the Badger, during a practice round at Colonial.
Henry, a Fort Worth resident who will attend today’s game, confirmed the wager in a text message. Kelly is not at the game. He is in Hawaii, preparing to begin the 2011 PGA Tour season.
In a phone conversation before the kickoff, Henry said he and Kelly “always give each other grief about different sports” and the wager seemed like a natural outgrowth of their spirited discussions.
“It’ll be good publicity for both schools,” Henry said. “The fans and media will eat it up. Go, Frogs!”
Spoken like a man who truly does not want to be wearing a Badger outfit during Colonial week in May.
