If Kentucky, the fourth seed in the East Regional, can take down second-seed North Carolina in this afternoon's regional final contest, we'll have the highest total -- in terms of pre-tournament seeds -- for any Final Four that I can remember. Houston, we have compelling chaos on the basketball horizon.
Right now, the Final Four qualifiers (and their seeds) are VCU (No. 11), Butler (No. 8) and Connecticut (No. 3). That's three teams with a total seeding number of 22. If Kentucky wins, the total rises to 26 -- an average of 6.5 per team. Even if North Carolina wins, the total still climbs to 24 -- a 6.0 average.
That should make for some pretty compelling chaos next week in Houston, where either VCU or Butler is now guaranteed a berth in the national championship game.
