Tad Boyle has turned down the chance to succeed Mark Turgeon at Texas A&M and will remain at Colorado, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Several sources had indicated Boyle was, after Marquette's Buzz Williams, the first choice of Aggies athletic director Bill Byrne. But the lure of his self-described “dream job” for the Colorado native apparently was stronger than a much bigger compensation package and the promise of an A&M team that should challenge for next season’s Big 12 championship.
CU expects a well-regarded incoming class, but has lost the heart of a team that finished 24-14, won eight games in the Big 12 and lost in the semifinals of the postseason NIT. CU joins the Pac 12 in 2011-12.
Byrne has spoken with Turgeon assistant Scott Spinelli, according to another source, but that is not the direction Byrne is likely to take.
