Texas receiver Marquise Goodwin has returned to the football team, altering plans to redshirt while focusing on a 2012 Olympic track bid, and will practice Tuesday for the first time.
In a statement released today by school officials, Goodwin said he realized he was “missing football” while receiving updates on his cell phone during Saturday’s season opener and waiting for a flight in Seoul, South Korea. Goodwin, a junior who had 31 catches last season, won the 2011 U.S. Outdoor National title in the long jump (27 feet, 4 inches) and finished 13th at last week’s World Championships in Korea.
“Words can’t even explain how excited I am right now to be getting back on the football field,” Goodwin said. “I didn’t want to wait a year to play again.”
