Southeastern Conference officials have released their 2012 football schedules, with incoming members Texas A&M and Missouri set to make their SEC debuts in home games on Sept. 8.
Texas A&M will play Florida on Sept. 8 in College Station, with Missouri meeting Georgia on the same day in Columbia, Mo. All SEC schools will play eight conference games, with the Aggies in the West Division and Missouri in the East Division.
The former Big 12 rivals will close the regular season by playing each other on Nov. 24 in College Station.
A&M’s eight conference contests for 2012, released today by SEC officials, include three games in Kyle Field (Florida, Missouri and Oct. 20 against LSU). The Arkansas game is set for Sept. 29 at a site to be determined. A&M is the designated home team for the contest.
A&M and Arkansas have played the past three years at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington and signed a 10-year agreement in 2008 to play each year at the facility. But there have been indications that A&M officials would prefer to play the contest in Kyle Field now that it is a conference game. A final decision about the venue is expected soon.
A&M’s SEC road games will be at Mississippi (Oct. 6), at Auburn (Oct. 27), at Mississippi State (Nov. 3) and at Alabama (Nov. 24). All games are subject to change to accommodate television.
Combined with scheduled non-conference games against McNeese State (Sept. 1, College Station) and SMU (Sept. 15, Dallas), A&M has 10 confirmed games on its 2012 schedule. The Aggies have available dates for additional games on Sept. 22, Oct. 13 and Nov. 17. School officials seek to fill two of the three openings, with the other remaining as an open date.
In a statement released by school officials, A&M football coach Kevin Sumlin said he is “very excited about playing in the best division and in the best conference in the country.” He predicted that A&M fans, who set a school record for home attendance in 2011, “will be in full support again next fall, both at home and on the road.”
A&M and Missouri officially join the SEC on July 1 after being charter members of the Big 12, which began competition in 1996.
