Texas defensive end Dravannti Johnson, a fourth-year junior, said today that he will transfer to another school in search of more playing time because he has finished his bachelor’s degree and will be eligible immediately. Other personnel moves announced today by coach Mack Brown include the departure of DT Taylor Bible, who will transfer, and DT De’Aires Cotton’s switch to a medical scholarship because of injuries. Brown also said secondary coach Duane Akina, a native Hawaiian, will interview for the head coaching vacancy at Hawaii.
Tight end Blaine Irby, who missed the 2009 and 2010 seasons with a career-threatening knee injury, said he will not seek a waiver for a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA and will play his final college game in the Holiday Bowl, Dec. 28 against California.
