Aledo running back Johnathan Gray, who has committed to the Texas Longhorns, will play in the Under Armour All-America Game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday (ESPN) at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The Austin American-Statesman at www.statesman.com reports on practice observations on the Texas recruits in the game, including Gray:
Former Florida State star Chris Weinke, one of the practice observers, said of Gray that "every time he touches the ball, you think he has a chance to score. He's shifty, but I also think he can run through some guys. He's stood out."
And the Hookem.com reporters said of Gray during practice: "He looked to have more pop than he did in the state title game after resting the sore knee for a couple of weeks. Physically, he looks like the best running back in the game on either side. He caught the ball extremely well. They're going to use him a lot working out of a zone running scheme this week."
TCU commitment Devonte Fields, from Arlington Martin, is on the roster of Team Highlight (wearing black) as a teammate of Gray's.
Gray has plenty of future Texas teammates on the roster. Other players committed to the Longhorns on the roster are quarterback Connor Brewer wide receivers Cayleb Jones and Thomas Johnson, offensive linemen Curtis Riser and Kennedy Estelle, defensive tackles Alex Norman and Malcom Brown, linebacker Peter Jinkens and cornerback Bryson Echols.
Also on the roster is Deion Sanders Jr. from Flower Mound Marcus.
