Baylor center Brittney Griner, a junior who led the Lady Bears to a 40-0 record and an NCAA championship earlier this month, has withdrawn her name from consideration for the 2012 USA Basketball Women’s National Team, essentially ending her Olympic hopes for this summer.
The 6-foot-8 Griner cited a family illness and her summer school schedule as the reasons for her decision. In a statement released today by school officials, Griner said: “Because of a family illness and my school schedule during the summer … I will be unable to participate this summer with the 2012 USA Basketball Women’s National Team. I am disappointed that I will be unable to participate, but I want to stay involved in USA Basketball and hope to again have the opportunity to represent my country in future international competition.”

Brittany probably wanted no part of the Olympics' gender testing. Testing is probably like kryptonite to Griner. Look for the NCAA to possibly ask Griner to submit to testing before the start of her senior season.
