The one area of the TCU offense that remains a question took another hit Monday. TCU began camp minus right tackle James Dunbar, who did not practice because of academic reasons.
“Right now James is not here,” TCU coach Gary Patterson said. “We’re still waiting whether he makes it academically or not. Eric [Tausch] and Michael Thompson are the two guys.”
Dunbar, who missed the first part of the season last year because of academic troubles, was atop the depth chart in the team’s media guide, ahead of Tausch. Tausch and Dunbar are both juniors. Tayo Fabuluje, a sophomore who attended Arlington Oakridge High School and sat out last season after transferring from BYU, is slotted to start at the left tackle spot.
The Horned Frogs offensive line, which has to replace three starters from 2011, including both tackles, lost several players for various reasons during the offseason. Patterson did not say if and when Dunbar would be available to practice or play this season.
Monday’s first practice was closed to the media. Tuesday’s 4 p.m. practice is open to the press and the public.
