In early August, JUCO tight end Shawn McKinney tweeted a picture of Baylor’s alternate uniforms while he was on an official visit to the school.
At that time, it was not certain that these would truly be the alternate jerseys, but the rumor was confirmed when everyone saw the uniforms in action on Sunday at Floyd Casey Stadium when the Bears took on the SMU Mustangs.
The black uniforms with green letters and numbers outlined in gold are certainly a change from the traditional green uniforms of last year. My first thought was “Why would anyone pick black uniforms to be worn in this dreadful Texas heat?” But honestly, dark green wouldn’t have been much better.
My second thought was, “Are those supposed to be bear scratches on the shoulders or did the stitching machine go crazy?”
The picture tweeted by McKinney also showed a white uniform with green letters and numbers and the same crazy stitching on the shoulders.
Whether the team, coaches, or fans like the uniforms or not, the fact is, Baylor won in them. And for the superstitious side of most sports fans, that is enough to make them loved.
