The Horned Frogs (4-1, 1-1 in Big 12) had been No. 15 before the loss.
The latest Top 25 poll shows that this week’s Red River Rivalry matchup in Dallas will feature No. 13 Oklahoma (3-1, 1-1 in Big 12) and No. 15 Texas (4-1, 1-1 in Big 12). OU is coming off a 41-20 victory over Texas Tech (4-1, 1-1) in Lubbock. Texas dropped a 48-45 decision to West Virginia (5-0, 2-0), which improved thee spots to No. 5 in today’s updated rankings.
Texas A&M (4-1, 2-1 in SEC), which rallied for its fourth consecutive victory in Saturday’s 30-27 victory over Mississippi, joined the Top 25 for the first time this season at No. 22. Another poll newcomer is No. 23 Louisiana Tech (5-0), the Aggies opponent this week in Shreveport, La. in a game postponed from Aug. 30 because of Hurricane Isaac.
With three teams ranked among the top 5 in last week’s poll falling on Saturday, there was a shakeup at the top of the poll. The new Top 10 looks like this: Alabama, Oregon, South Carolina, Florida, West Virginia, Kansas State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, LSU and Oregon State.
Alabama (5-0) which received all 60 first-place votes for a second consecutive week. Oregon also was No. 2 last week. But the remainder of the Top 10 was reshaped by Saturday’s results.
