Texas officials have announced that running back Malcolm Brown (ankle) and linebacker Jordan Hicks (hip) will not play today against Oklahoma. Both players were listed as doubtful Friday. After being evaluated by team trainers this morning, both will watch today’s game in street clothes.
Brown’s absence means more carries for Texas tailback Johnathan Gray, a freshman from Aledo who set career highs for carries (14) and rushing yards (87) in last week’s 48-45 loss to West Virginia. Gray will share the load today with Joe Bergeron, who leads the team in rushing yards (300) and touchdowns (9).
Hicks will miss his third consecutive game. No. 15 Texas (4-1, 1-1 in Big 12) has struggled against to defend the run in the two games he has missed. Expect No. 13 Oklahoma (3-1, 1-1) to try and exploit that void in today’s matchup. Kickoff set for 11 a.m. in the Cotton Bowl.
