The Lady Bears, who were scheduled to play Shaw University on Monday, will now be playing Tarleton State University that night.
Shaw University President Dorothy Cowser Yancy cancelled Monday’s women’s basketball exhibition game on Friday. Yancy cited injuries and a depleted roster.
Shaw University has only six players available to suit up with two of those six are still nursing injuries.
“I am very disappointed that Shaw University cancelled its trip to Waco, especially on such short notice,” women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey said. “However, I am very grateful that Tarleton State head coach Ronnie Hearne has agreed to come play us on Monday.”
The Tarleton State TexAnns had a 23-9 season last year en route to claiming their first-ever Lone Star Conference (LSC) championship. The team is currently picked as the 2013 LSC favorites.
After a 92-41 exhibition victory over Oklahoma City University last week, the No. 1 ranked Lady Bears will play the TexAnns at 7 p.m. Monday at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas. -- Savannah Pullin
