Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, has been selected as the 2012 recipient of the Great American Patriot Award. The award will be presented during halftime of the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, Dec. 29 in Fort Worth.
The honor goes annually to a candidate who has gone beyond the call of duty to serve and protect the United States, with proven dedication and loyalty in upholding the Constitution and the laws of the nation. Schwartz retired on Aug. 12, 2012. In his role as Chief of Staff, he oversaw a personnel force of 680,000 and functioned as a military adviser to the Secretary of Defense, National Security Council and the President.
The 2012 Armed Forces Bowl pits Air Force (6-6) against Rice (6-6) at TCU’s Amon Carter Stadium.
