Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, a frontrunner to win the 2012 Heisman Trophy, joined offensive tackle Luke Joeckel, an Arlington High School graduate, among the school’s four first-team honorees Monday on the 2012 All-SEC football team.
The first-team unit, selected by the Associated Press, also included A&M offensive tackle Jake Matthews and defensive end Damontre Moore. Manziel, a redshirt freshman, was selected as both the SEC Offensive Player of the Year and the Freshman of the Year. Manziel was one of seven unanimous selections to the first-team unit.
Coach Kevin Sumlin earned coach of the year honors for leading No. 9 A&M (10-2) to a berth in the Jan. 4 AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic in the school’s first year as an SEC member.
