Baylor suffered its second conference loss tonight after a strong rally came up short against Oklahoma.
The Bears, who lost 74-71, are now 14-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The Bears struggled in shooting, averaging only a 37.3 field goal percentage, but freshman center Isaiah Austin remained fruitful recording a double-double with 17 points and 21 rebounds. Senior guard Pierre Jackson led the team in scoring with 22 points and had eight rebounds.
Baylor trailed by as much as 16, but was able to cut the deficit to one twice. The Bears had two chances to tie the game right before the buzzer, but neither effort was successful. Jackson, the Big 12 scoring leader, had the ball with three seconds left on the clock. He went up for the three-pointer, but missed. Junior guard Brady Heslip grabbed the rebound and stepped back, but his shot bounced off the rim just as the clock ran out.
Oklahoma’s junior forward Amath M’Baye had 20 points for the Sooners, along with teammate senior guard Steven Pledger.
After the loss, the Bears are now tied with Oklahoma for second in the Big 12. The Bears hit the road on Saturday as they travel to Ames, Iowa to take on the Iowa State Cyclones.
