The top-ranked Lady Bears put their nation’s-best 49-game home win streak on the line as they host the No. 20 Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday morning in a sold out game.
The game marks the program’s fourth advance sellout; the Lady Bears sold out three games in advance last season.
Oklahoma, who sits only one game behind Baylor in the Big 12 standings, are 15-3 on the season and 5-1 in league play under the direction of 17th-year head coach Sherri Coale. The Sooners are led by junior guard Aaryn Ellenberg with 18.9 points per contest, junior center Nicole Griffin who tallies 11 points a game, and junior guard Morgan Hook who averages 10.5 points. Senior forward Joanna McFarland leads the team in rebounding with 8.4 per game.
Oklahoma leads the series 24-15, but Baylor has won the last four meetings with the Sooner’s last victory over the Lady Bears coming on March 12, 2010 in Kansas City, Mo, in the second round of the Big 12 Championship.
The two times Baylor and Oklahoma met last season, Baylor senior post Brittney Griner averaged 22.5 points and 7 rebounds while also registering 15 blocks. Fans can expect to see many blocks from Griner on Saturday as she tries to break the NCAA D1 record for blocks set by Louella Tomlinson with 663.
Over the two games, junior guard Odyssey Sims and senior forward/post Brooklyn Pope each averaged double-digit scoring with 14 and 10.5 points, respectively. Senior forward/post Destiny Williams averaged 11 rebounds a game while scoring 8.5 points.
The game, scheduled for an 11:05 a.m. CT tip off, will be broadcast on FSN.
